Amazon Health Services is building a unified design system for its clinical and consumer products and is hiring a Design Systems Designer to scale the component library, define visual patterns, and build infrastructure that supports dozens of product designers. The role focuses on components, tokens, interaction and motion standards, AI interaction patterns, and accessibility guidelines, and involves partnering with designers, front-end engineers, and AI/ML teams.

The position emphasizes visual design craft, systems thinking, and incorporating AI tools into design-systems workflows.

• Design and maintain scalable UI components, patterns, and guidelines within the AHS design system
• Define and evolve visual tokens (color, typography, spacing, elevation, motion) to ensure consistency across products
• Audit product surfaces for system adherence and identify opportunities for new or improved patterns
• Create detailed component specs including states, responsive behavior, accessibility requirements, and usage guidance
• Define and document design patterns for AI-driven experiences (generative UI, conversational interfaces, AI-assisted workflows)
• Collaborate with front-end engineers to ensure coded components match design intent
• Identify and implement AI-powered workflows to accelerate design-systems operations (variant generation, automated specs, documentation, design-to-code handoff)
• Contribute to design system documentation to make it easy for other designers to adopt and contribute

• 3+ years of design experience
• Have an available online portfolio
• Experience working in a collaborative team environment to deliver high-quality design solutions
• Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design skills and systematic design thinking, showing how individual components connect to a larger system
• Experience building and maintaining design systems, pattern libraries, or component libraries
• Understanding of how design decisions translate to code
• Strong eye for typography, color, spacing, and visual hierarchy
• Active use of or strong curiosity about AI tools to accelerate design-systems work (component generation, variant exploration, automated documentation, design-to-code pipelines)
