Supervising Video Producer,
* The New Yorker
* The Supervising Video Producer screens film submissions, produces, shoots, and edits videos that support the magazine’s visual storytelling. This is a hands-on editing and production role that also provides opportunities to develop original videos and recurring series in collaboration with New Yorker writers and editors. In addition to overseeing day-to-day production, scheduling, and shepherding projects through the editorial process, the Supervising Producer plays a key creative role in working directly with filmmakers and shaping the voice and style of The New Yorker’s video storytelling.

The role requires meticulous organizational skills and a systems-oriented mindset when it comes to establishing and maintaining video workflows. The applicant should have sound journalistic judgment, technical fluency, and a deep understanding of The New Yorker’s tone and approach to storytelling.

The successful candidate will have exceptional editing and production skills; the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines; experience with documentary and journalistic storytelling; and a strong understanding of emerging video formats, techniques, and social platforms. They should bring a collaborative approach to working with writers, editors, filmmakers, and production teams, along with a portfolio that demonstrates creativity, resourcefulness, and excellence across a range of formats, including short news pieces, cinematic documentaries, and recurring video series.

Responsibilities
* Edit original short- and long-form videos on a range of topics—from news and investigative journalism to culture and humor. This includes incorporating archival research, animation, sound design, and motion graphics to enhance videos and strengthen storytelling.
* Oversee video post-production workflows, setting priorities and timelines, reviewing work as needed, and shepherding videos through the editorial closing process, seeking fact checking, copy editing, and legal review.
* Review video submissions to
* The New Yorker*, and work with filmmakers to prepare their films for publication.
* Shepherd video projects through pre-production, production, and distribution, providing creative input and production coordination as requested.
* Maintain video guidelines, standards, and documentation to establish consistent editorial and production practices across teams and platforms.
* Independently produce and shoot videos, as requested.
* Read article drafts and present creative ideas to enhance or adapt them using video.
* Work together with producers, editors, and reporters to determine the most effective way to tell a story through video.
* Collaborate with team members across the institution, helping them further their technical and creative skills in video reporting and production.
* Develop creative approaches that help to define the style and voice of every
* New Yorker
* video.
* Assist the Executive Producer with preparation and coördination of screenings of New Yorker films with outside venders,
* Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager.

Skills and Qualifications
* Five or more years of experience in digital video, with an emphasis on journalism or documentary.
* Expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro and comfortable in After Effects.
* Experience working on and coordinating post-production, including color, sound, and graphics.
* Experience editing in different styles and tones (e.g. journalistic, humorous).
* Demonstrable experience working on tight deadlines and producing multiple projects at once.
* Solid digital video shooting skills, across cameras, using Sony cameras, lighting and gear, as well as capturing high-quality sound.
