* Summary:

** Public Safety Aides (PSAs) assist the Office of Parking & Commuter Services by conducting parking enforcement patrols, office work, traffic direction, staffing for special events, and other exciting opportunities. This is an exceptional opportunity for a student to familiarize themselves with campus, establish contact with university administrators, and meet high-profile individuals. It is also an excellent starting point for students interested in careers in sustainability, transportation, and security services.

* Essential Functions:

*** Enforce parking policies on all campus properties.
* Provide customer service to all campus community members and guests.
* Maintain consistent communication with supervisors via radio and phone.
* Positively represent the PSA program, the Office of Parking and Commuter Services, the American University Police Department, and the University as a whole.
* Provide support to the American University Police Department when necessary, often during special events such as Commencement or Move-In.
* Follow PSA policies/procedures and the directions of supervisory staff.
** Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
*** Part-time.
* 9 - 15 hours per week.
** Salary Range:*** $18.40 - $20.15 per hour.

Education and Experience:

*** Strong customer service skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
* Successfully complete all new hire paperwork and pass initial training.
* Incoming or current AU student.
* Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. University Safety & Security Services reserves the right to review students’ academic and judicial records.

Education and Experience:

*** Experience with iPhone-based applications and handheld radios.
* Ability to handle challenging situations.
** Additional Eligibility

Qualifications:

*** More hours are available with promotion.
* Availability for Move-In, Move-Out, & Commencement Activities, with early move-in and late move-out available for on-campus residents.
* Availability during the hours of 8 am - 10 pm, weekdays and weekends.
