The main purpose of this position is to provide dental hygiene treatments and services to patients in clinical and community-based settings. This position includes both clinic-based care and off-site public health activities such as school-based programs, community outreach, and preventive services. This position must be able to perform duties independently in both clinic and community settings.

• Education:
  
  Determined by the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for Dental Hygienist.
• Experience:
  
  Two years of experience providing dental hygiene treatments and services as a Dental Hygienist.
• Note:
  
  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Dental Hygienist or Specialist classifications or Dental Hygienist or Specialist specialty codes in the dental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

• Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current certification as a Dental Hygienist from the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners.
• Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
• Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
