Position: PROJECT MANAGER (PLACE)
Location: Northern

The Council’s Development and Regeneration team is working to deliver high-quality, sustainable regeneration and placemaking projects across Cardiff. We are passionate about working with communities, partners and stakeholders to shape places that respond to local needs, support wellbeing, celebrate local identity and make a real difference to people in the city.

Our work includes developing and delivering neighbourhood placemaking plans, improving local district and shopping centres, enhancing public spaces, supporting active travel routes and community assets, and progressing capital projects that contribute to the Council’s wider regeneration priorities. We work collaboratively with communities, Welsh Government, internal Council teams, third sector organisations, businesses and other public service partners.

Due to the increasing range of exciting placemaking and regeneration projects to be taken forward, we are seeking a Project Manager (Place) to help develop and deliver neighbourhood placemaking plans and related capital projects. The successful candidate will work alongside a skilled and experienced group of programme and project managers as part of the Development and Regeneration Team, contributing specialist urban design and placemaking expertise to the development and delivery of neighbourhood placemaking plans.

You will work collaboratively with residents, community groups, businesses and stakeholders to ensure plans reflect local needs, aspirations and lived experience. You will also build strong working relationships with Welsh Government, internal Council teams, third sector partners and other public services.

You will take a lead role in developing design briefs, feasibility studies, scheme options and engagement approaches, and in managing the delivery of complex, diverse and multi-disciplinary capital projects to agreed standards of quality, programme and cost.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will have a degree, high-level qualification or equivalent level of experience in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, regeneration or a related built-environment discipline. You will have demonstrable experience of urban design, placemaking, regeneration or built-environment projects, including developing spatial strategies, design briefs, feasibility studies and concept designs.

You will understand placemaking principles, inclusive and sustainable design, and the role of public realm in supporting wellbeing. You will have experience leading or supporting co-design and community engagement processes, with the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with diverse communities.

You will have excellent interpersonal , communication and organisational skills , with the ability to build successful relationships and trust with a wide range of partners. You will be confident preparing clear design briefs, reports, engagement summaries and project documentation, and able to manage risks, budgets, procurement and project delivery requirements effectively.
