Synthesis Design + Architecture (SDA) is a progressive Los Angeles design practice that embraces new definitions of craft, merges form with performance, and makes a case for the role of innovative architecture in our contemporary creative culture. We're looking for an Intermediate/Senior Architectural Designer/Architect to help lead design development and technical delivery on active studio projects. Current work includes an ambitious adaptive-reuse project transforming an existing creative-office/warehouse building into a technology/media-driven creative headquarters — including complex existing-building and code/occupancy challenges — and a highly customized small-footprint commercial project currently transitioning from permitting into construction, featuring a sculptural fabricated enclosure and close coordination across architectural, structural, MEP, and specialty-fabrication scopes.
This role suits a designer ready to take ownership of project delivery, translate design direction into buildable architecture, and mentor junior staff, working closely with the firm's principal.
Responsibilities- Lead design development and technical coordination on assigned projects from concept through construction administration
- Manage day-to-day production, schedules, and documentation quality
- Coordinate architectural work with structural, MEP, and specialty-fabrication consultants
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and field conditions during construction phases
- Conduct site visits and document field observations
- Direct and mentor junior designers
- Represent design intent in client and consultant meetings
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture
- 4+ years of professional experience in an architecture or design practice
- Strong proficiency in Rhino; working knowledge of Revit
- Experience producing construction documents and administering construction
- Demonstrated ability to lead portions of a project independently
- Working knowledge of California Building Code and accessibility requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including with contractors and fabricators
- Grasshopper or other computational/parametric design experience
- Progress toward or holding architectural licensure
- Experience with custom fabrication, glazing, or specialty material systems
- Experience or interest in working with advanced AI design workflows
- Prior direct client- and consultant-facing project responsibility
