Project Designer

2+ Years of Experience

Agency Artifact is seeking Project Designers to join our Los Angeles studio. We are a fast-paced, collaborative design practice working across scales—from gardens and public spaces to mixed-use developments, urban districts, and masterplans.

We are looking for candidates with strengths in one of two areas of emphasis:
Design Visualization or Technical + Project Delivery. Both tracks require strong design judgment, technical curiosity, and the ability to take ownership of work and move projects forward within the pace of an active professional studio.

  • Design + Visualization — focused on design development, 3D modeling, visualization, and communicating design ideas through compelling drawings and presentations.
  • Technical + Project Delivery — focused on developing design work through Design Development and Construction Documents, detailing, documentation, and consultant coordination.

The following are prerequisites for the Project Designer position:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in a landscape architecture, urban design, or architecture office.
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design, or a related design field.
  • Experience working on at least one project from concept through construction documents.
  • Strong proficiency in Rhino and AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Enscape.
  • Strong organization and ability to manage assigned responsibilities within project deadlines.
  • Revit experience is a plus.
Design + Visualization Track

For this position, we are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Strong native 3D modeling skills in Rhino, with Rhino used as a primary design tool and AutoCAD as primary site design tool.
  • Ability to take ownership of key design elements and develop them from initial concept through design development.
  • Strong rendering and visualization skills.
  • Ability to produce rendered site plans, sections, perspectives, diagrams, and presentation graphics.
  • Strong composition, typography, graphic design, and visual editing skills.
  • Ability to assemble design concepts into polished client presentations and design packages.
  • Hand-drawing, diagramming, and physical or digital modeling abilities.
  • Experience with or interest in AI-assisted design and visualization workflows. ComfyUI or similar tools are strongly preferred.
Technical + Project Delivery Track

For this position, we are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Direct experience working through DD and CD phases.
  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency and experience using Rhino for design development and detailing.
  • Understanding of drawing organization, keynotes, annotations, dimensions, and documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with the technical aspects of landscape architecture, including planting, grading, materials, and detailing.
  • Ability to develop coordinated plans, sections, and details.
  • Ability to manage assigned portions of DD and CD sets and keep work moving with limited supervision.
  • Experience coordinating drawings and design information with consultants.
Portfolio

Portfolios should clearly identify your individual role and contribution to the work shown.

Design + Visualization candidates: We are particularly interested in seeing Rhino models, design development, renderings, rendered site plans, client presentations, diagrams, and strong graphic communication. Include AI-assisted design or visualization work if applicable.

Technical + Project Delivery candidates: We are particularly interested in seeing DD/CD sheets, details, grading and planting plans, drawing development, and Rhino models used for detailing or coordination.

We understand that candidates may have strengths across both areas.
Please indicate in your application which Project Designer track best reflects your experience and interests.
