Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast. The GMC Healthcare Community is growing and is seeking an experienced Healthcare Construction Administrator to support projects throughout the Southeast, with a primary focus on the Birmingham and Nashville Healthcare Teams.

This position connects early facility assessment, design-phase constructability review, and construction-phase contract administration. The Healthcare Construction Administrator will work closely with project architects, planners, designers, engineers, contractors, consultants, and healthcare clients to support the development of coordinated constructible documents and the successful execution of projects during construction.

The position reports to the Region 1 Healthcare Practice Leader (Nathan Arceneaux) and collaborates regularly with the Vice President of Healthcare (Steve Alby), Healthcare Practice Quality Leader (Paul Fridl), Project Architects, and regional Healthcare Teams.

• Participate in existing-facility assessments, field investigations, and documentation during predesign and early planning.
• Document existing architectural conditions and assist in coordinating the investigation of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, and other building systems.
• Identify potential constructability concerns, concealed-condition risks, access limitations, utility conflicts, and operational constraints.
• Assist project teams in evaluating renovation phasing, temporary conditions, shutdown requirements, infection-control considerations, and continuity of healthcare operations.
• Organize field observations, photographs, annotated drawings, and assessment findings into clear records for use by the design team.
• Contribute construction knowledge and lessons learned to early project discussions, programming validation, budgeting, and implementation planning.

• Participate in SD, DD, and CD quality reviews, with emphasis on constructability, coordination, sequencing, completeness, and consistency with existing conditions.
• Review details and specifications for alignment with project requirements, anticipated field conditions, and practical construction methods.
• Assist with interdisciplinary drawing coordination and identification of potential gaps, conflicts, and execution risks.
• Provide input regarding construction cost, phasing, value, bid packaging, and document clarity.
• Help maintain healthcare-specific QA/QC checklists, standards, details, and lessons-learned resources.
• Identify and promptly communicate potential risk-management concerns to the Project Architect and project leadership.

• Visit project sites at intervals appropriate to the stage of construction and document observed progress and general conformance with the contract documents.
• Prepare clear, timely field reports, photographic documentation, and follow-up records.
• Review contractor applications for payment and provide recommendations to the Project Architect based on observed progress, stored materials, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate the review and processing of submittals, requests for information (RFIs), proposal requests, change proposals, change orders, and other construction-phase documentation.
• Assist the Project Architect in evaluating questions regarding the intent and requirements of the contract documents.
