The Department of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplant at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center – Wake Forest University School of Medicine is seeking a faculty
Abdominal Transplant Procurement Surgeon
to join our expanding abdominal transplant program. The surgeon will be embedded within the Division of Abdominal Transplant and fully engaged in our clinical, academic, and research missions.
- Primary responsibility for
abdominal organ procurement
(kidney, liver, pancreas) from DBD and DCD donors - Participation in donor selection, management, and coordination with OPO partners
- Active involvement in
normothermic machine perfusion (NMP)and
abdominal normothermic regional perfusion (A‑NRP) - On‑call organ recovery requiring ground and air travel
- Teaching and mentorship of residents, fellows, and medical students
- Academic opportunities aligned with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine faculty track
- MD/DO with eligibility for North Carolina licensure
- Board certification/eligibility in General Surgery; completion of an abdominal transplant fellowship
- Minimum 3 years of abdominal procurement experience and/ormultiorgan abdominal transplant experience
- Demonstrated expertise in
ex‑vivo organ perfusion
and advanced organ preservation technologies - Ability to meet ACIN, CMS, and ASTS criteria for procurement surgeons
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
