Burn-Focused Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Iowa Healthcare offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited program with a specialized focus on burn care. This fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity for an in-depth experience in the management of the entire spectrum of critical care surrounding burns, complex wounds in addition to complex surgical and cardiac conditions in a critical care setting. This Burn-Focused Surgical Critical Care fellowship provides an opportunity to develop expertise in burn care while mastering the full spectrum of critical care surgery, supported by a multidisciplinary team committed to compassionate & high-quality patient care.

Upon completion of this 1 year combined fellowship there is the opportunity to complete the American Board of Surgical Critical Care and practice as a Board-Certified Burn-Surgical Critical Care physician.

All interested applicants must match the eligibility requirements based on the ACGME Guidelines which include:

• Prior to appointment in the program, fellows must have completed at least three clinical years in an ACGME-accredited or AOA-accredited graduate medical education program in one of the following specialties: anesthesiology, emergency medicine, neurological surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, or urology.
• Applicants must be either eligible for the American Board of Surgery Certification or certified with the American Board of Surgery.
• If stepping out of a residency with 3 completed years, applicant must provide documentation to be returning to a residency for completion after fellowship.
