Assistant Surgeon for Cardiothoracic (CT) Surgery, No Primary Surgical Duties, Shared Call

Seeking an experienced surgeon (MD/DO) for an Assistant Only role in adult cardiac surgery. This position focuses exclusively on intraoperative first assisting. The role supports the primary attending surgeon to ensure safe, highly regulated extracorporeal bypass and open-heart procedures.

The position is located in La Jolla, California at Scripps Health.

• First Assistant in Surgery: Act as the primary surgical first assistant for adult cardiac procedures, including CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aortic surgeries, and off-pump procedures.
• Team Compliance: Fulfill surgical team composition requirements as mandated by California Code of Regulations Title 22, §70435.
• Call Coverage: Participate in a structured call schedule to support emergencies, after-hours, and weekend adult cardiac cases.

• Education: Degree from an accredited Medical School (MD or DO).
• Licensure: Unrestricted Medical License to practice in the State of California, issued by Medical Board of California.
• Credentialing: Must be able to obtain and maintain active surgical assisting clinical privileges at the affiliated facility.
