Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor; HS Clin, Clin X) Academic Transfusion Medicine Physicians

The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body, and seeks an academic transfusion medicine physician to join the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine.

The successful candidates will serve as an Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine and the Blood Banks at UC San Diego Health’s La Jolla-Jacobs Medical Center, Hillcrest Medical Center, and the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM). These essential clinical services support the hemotherapy and human biologics manufacturing needs of UC San Diego Health’s strategic programs (advanced surgery and transplantation, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, women and infants care, Level I trauma service, and a regional burn center).

The positions involve a broad range of clinical and administrative responsibilities, as well as teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. This academically rich environment offers exceptional opportunities for translational and clinical research collaboration with leading investigators at UC San Diego and its affiliates and several other nearby institutions.

The appropriate series and appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, or an MD/PhD in the biological sciences, chemistry, immunology, molecular biology/genetics, experimental pathology, or another health-related field.

Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Candidates must have or be board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath) in clinical pathology (CP) or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP), and also be certified or eligible for subspecialty certification in transfusion medicine (ABPath), or equivalent

Alternatively, candidates with current certification by another ABMS-approved primary medical specialty board (e.g., American Board of Internal Medicine [ABIM] or American Board of Pediatrics [ABP]) must also be certified or eligible for subspecialty certification in transfusion medicine (ABPath) or equivalent.
