Program Director – Gastroenterology Fellowship Program

Charleston Area Medical Center Institute for Academic Medicine | Charleston, WV

Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine invite applications for a dynamic and visionary Program Director (Assistant, Associate and Professor ranks) to lead a well-established Gastroenterology Fellowship program. The Program Director will provide strategic, educational, and administrative leadership for an established fellowship program committed to training outstanding gastroenterologists through excellence in clinical care, scholarship, professionalism, and patient-centered learning.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of program administration and continuous improvement while fostering an environment that promotes fellow success, faculty engagement, wellness, and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ACGME Common Program Requirements and Gastroenterology-specific Program Requirements.
  • Direct the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the fellowship curriculum.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate fellows, fostering professional development and career advancement.
  • Ensure fellows receive comprehensive clinical and procedural training in all areas of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, and related disciplines.
  • Lead recruitment, development, and evaluation of faculty committed to excellence in education and scholarship.
  • Maintain an environment that promotes fellow well-being, belonging, professionalism, and patient safety.
  • Support and advance fellow and faculty scholarly activity, quality improvement initiatives, and research endeavors.
  • Represent the fellowship program within the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine, Vandalia Health, and national gastroenterology education communities.
Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:
  • Board certified in Gastroenterology with at least three years of educational and administrative experience.
  • A record of excellence in graduate medical education and familiarity with ACGME requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead program development and engage in strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated scholarship within the field.
  • Passion for simulation-based education and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills.

Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center is a nonprofit, 1,138-bed regional referral center comprising seven hospitals across southern West Virginia as well as the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and the CAMC Foundation. More than 1,500 providers serve on its medical staff.

The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine is West Virginia's premier medical teaching facility, hosting more than 1,000 learners every day in programs leading to health professions degrees and certifications.

The Institute offers continuing education, outreach, research support and patient education. It also sponsors 24 ACGME and non-ACGME-accredited physician residency and fellowship programs, as well as three pharmacy residencies, a clinical psychology internship and multiple post graduate positions, and a School of Nurse Anesthesia (affiliated with the University of Charleston since 2024). Programs designed to meet the needs of the community in which we serve are constantly being developed.

The CAMC Center for Learning and Research, home to the Institute, provides advanced simulation-based clinical training in a realistic environment. The facility includes operating rooms, a critical care room, a labor and delivery suiteand multiple inpatient and outpatient training rooms to help learners practice skills and procedures safely.
