Maternal-Fetal Medicine Chief Director
The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, is seeking a highly qualified and collaborative physician to serve as the Chief of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division.
This full-time, open-rank position offers the opportunity to lead and further develop a growing academic division dedicated to exceptional high-risk pregnancy care, education, and research. The Chief will report to the Chair of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and work closely with Women’s Health service line leadership to advance maternal and fetal care throughout the region.
The department welcomes accomplished senior or mid-career faculty members and thought leaders prepared to take the next step in their careers. Leadership development and support will be available for candidates who demonstrate strong potential but have not previously held a Chief or senior leadership title.
Position Highlights- Provide strategic leadership for the clinical, educational, research, and administrative activities of the MFM Chief
- Help shape the continued growth of maternal-fetal medicine and regional perinatal services across Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health
- Mentor and support a talented team of early-career faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students
- Maintain an active clinical practice across inpatient and outpatient maternal-fetal medicine services
- Expand high-risk pregnancy care, prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, outreach, and telemedicine programs
- Direct and strengthen the accredited MFM fellowship program while maintaining compliance with ACGME standards
- Collaborate with general obstetricians, neonatologists, pediatric medical and surgical specialists, pediatric cardiologists, nurses, and other multidisciplinary partners
- Advance clinical quality, patient experience, program outcomes, productivity, and financial performance
- Promote clinical, translational, and basic science research while supporting publications, national presentations, and external funding
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain exceptional faculty and staff
- Support the department’s commitment to complex family planning and comprehensive reproductive healthcare
The division offers a highly collaborative academic environment with access to advanced clinical programs and multidisciplinary expertise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build upon the program’s existing strengths while developing new services, expanding its academic presence, and shaping its long-term direction.
Candidate Requirements- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
- Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Board certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Eligible for medical licensure in New Jersey
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience in maternal-fetal medicine
- Expertise in obstetric ultrasound and invasive MFM procedures
- Demonstrated record of clinical excellence, academic achievement, and commitment to medical education
- Clinical research experience and an established record of scholarly activity
- Experience with program development, faculty mentorship, and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Evidence of a national presence through publications, invited presentations, or other professional contributions
Previous formal leadership experience is desired, although not required. Candidates with experience securing extramural research funding, leading multidisciplinary teams, and advancing quality improvement or population health initiatives in perinatal care are strongly encouraged to apply.
CompensationThe position offers a minimum salary of $550,448
, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, expertise, market benchmarks, available funding, and internal equity.
