The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest clinical departments within the East Carolina University School of Medicine. The mission of the Department is to provide quality patient care, to teach medical students and residents, and to do research. It consists of 16 sections, Pediatric Outpatient Center, and laboratories (research and clinical), The sections of the Department are:
Administration;
Adolescent;
Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics;
Developmental Evaluation Clinic;
Endocrinology;
Gastroenterology;
General;
Genetics;
Hematology/Oncology;
Infectious Disease;
Neonatology;
Nephrology;
Neurology; and Rheumatology. The Department is funded from State appropriated monies, practice plan generated income, and by grants awarded.

It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.

The achievement of this mission requires a full faculty commitment to the goals and operations of the Department of Pediatrics, the East Carolina University School, Brody School of Medicine. Brody School of Medicine operates within ECU Health under a joint operating agreement.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position provides Child Life therapeutic services to pediatric hematology and oncology patients and their families who receive care in the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology outpatient clinic at the Brody School of…
