Job Description & How to Apply Below

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences invite applications for the position of Director of the Beth K. and Stuart

C. Yudofsky Division of Neuropsychiatry. This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative physician-scientist to lead an academic division at the intersection of psychiatry, neurology, and neurotechnology. The position is supported by substantial resources, including a multi-million-dollar endowment generating significant annual support.

Located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston—the world’s largest medical complex—BCM offers a rich environment for scientific discovery, clinical innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Director will collaborate across BCM and its extensive network of clinical and research affiliates, including the Michael

E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Harris Health System, and The Menninger Clinic. These affiliations provide access to diverse clinical programs, advanced research infrastructure, and collaborators spanning psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, neuroscience, and engineering.

Texas offers robust support for brain-health research through the newly established Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT), a $3 billion statewide investment over 10 years providing up to $300 million annually for neurodegenerative research and faculty recruitment. The Director will be well positioned to leverage DPRIT opportunities.

The successful candidate will be a creative, collaborative leader dedicated to translating scientific discovery into patient care. Key priorities include:

  • Developing a clear, ambitious vision for the Division’s research, clinical, and educational missions;
  • Strengthening national prominence through scholarship, innovation, and expanded research funding;
  • Recruiting, mentoring, and retaining outstanding faculty and trainees;
  • Fostering interdisciplinary programs bridging psychiatry with neurology, neurosurgery, neuroscience, neuroimaging, rehabilitation, and engineering.

Departmental strengths essential to neuropsychiatry include advanced brain imaging, brain injury medicine, and neuromodulation (e.g., DBS, TMS, LIFU). The Director will report to Wayne Goodman, M.D., Chair of Psychiatry. The primary faculty appointment will be in Psychiatry, with the potential for secondary appointments in other BCM departments.

Requirements
  • Minimum Qualification
  • MD or MD/PhD and eligibility for a Texas medical license
  • Proven record as a clinician-investigator with sustained extramural research funding
Preferred:
  • Board certification in Psychiatry or Neuropsychiatry
  • Current NIH funding
  • Track record of leading competitive extramural grants (e.g., NIH, DoD, foundation, industry)
