ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION:
Exceptional (Special) Education Supervisor

Work Schedule: 235 days per school year

Director of Exceptional (Special) Education

SUMMARY:
The Exceptional (Special) Education Supervisor assists the Director in coordination of the District's exceptional (special) education program to ensure the provision of needed services for students with disabilities. The supervisor also provides individualized education programs to meet the needs of all students with disabilities and ensures compliance with all state, federal and local requirements while providing consultation to staff, students, and parents.

It is the direct responsibility of this position to aggressively defend and further the doctrine of least restrictive environment and inclusion for each individual building(s) of supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures.

Keep abreast of federal and state laws and regulations governing the education of individuals with disabilities (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act and Indiana Article VII).

Communicate program initiatives and objectives to the Administration, Staff and Community.

Ensuring appropriate delivery of both special education instruction and related services as stipulated in IEPs.

Coordinates special transportation as a related service as stipulated in IEPs.

Ensuring the services provided are of high quality, provided in the LRE and are aligned with students’ IEPs.

Assist in the development of appropriate individualized education programs that are compliant with state and federal special education regulations and local standards.

Provide instructional leadership including curriculum and personnel development utilizing best practices.

Provide regular consultation to building administrators regarding special education and related regulations.

Regularly assess assigned certified and non-certified staff performance (through SFS) and recommend/communicate needs of improvement when and where appropriate.

Provide regular technical assistance to certified and non-certified staff.

Foster active involvement in at least one special education professional organization. (ICASE, CEC, Case, etc.).

Carefully monitor expenditures of programs under the direct supervision of the Director and recommend necessary supplies and equipment within the confines of the annual budget.

Closely adhere to the collective Bargaining Agreements of appropriate work groups.

Facilitate transition services to the next level.

Assist the Director of Exceptional Education in the Supervision of staff of the Exceptional Education Division.

Assist in supervision of Medicaid coordinating with Go Solutions, monitoring monthly provider entries, answering Medicaid related questions from staff, providing updates to staff, and arranging for training of new staff.

Participate in weekly Ex. Ed. staff meetings, monthly Ex. Ed. Parent Forum meetings, annual regional meetings, regular multidisciplinary (OT, Speech, PT, Psychologist, EA, Division Office Staff and Resource Teacher) meetings.

Participate in the interview process for certified and non-certified staff.

Participate in the annual P-H-M Job Fair.

Complete regular walkthroughs to assigned buildings and provide the Director of Exceptional Education with strengths and weaknesses of each school Ex Ed program and services.

Develop and promote effective personnel and administrative relations.

Participation in Professional Development opportunities offered by the district as well as coordinate, develop, and assist in implementing Ex. Ed. PD for the district.

Review and analyze state and district wide assessment data and conduct meetings with each assigned building during the school year.
