    Bachelor;s degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university required.

    Knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) AKS curriculum with in-depth knowledge of content in field of certification; knowledge of instructional strategies; ability to integrate technology; strong communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
  • Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the district AKS curriculum and provide an atmosphere conducive to students intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Demonstrate command of the school subject being taught.
    • Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on district AKS.
    • Identify prerequisite skills and knowledge necessary for students to learn the AKS.
    • Plan instruction to promote student mastery of prerequisite skills and knowledge.
    • Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
    • Prepare written lesson plans to support instructional objectives of the AKS for all students.
    • Plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
  • Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities.
    • Review resources including district core materials.
    • Select core materials and other resources that match the AKS and learner needs.
    • Reflect scientifically-based research on effective instruction in resource selection.
  • Provide initial focus for the lesson and link content to prior knowledge and real-world applications.
  • Organize content for presentation of the lesson in a logical sequence and blocks or steps based on student needs.
  • Utilize scientifically researched, effective instructional strategies and methods to support student learning.
    • Assess student learning and provide feedback to students and parents.
    • Provide collaborative learning opportunities and distributed guided practice.
    • Teach essential content-related vocabulary and use varied representations.
    • Teach students to summarize learning and improve literacy across content areas.
    • Utilize technology effectively to plan, teach, and assess.
    • Encourage goal setting for academic achievement.
  • Provide formative assessment to measure progress toward AKS objectives and adjust plans as needed.
  • Provide summative assessments and maintain records; communicate results to students and parents; use results to plan subsequent instruction.
  • Organize learning environment to maximize student time on task and maintain an orderly classroom and routines.
  • Maintain behavior conducive to learning; set expectations, monitor behavior, and foster a respectful classroom climate.
  • Participate in professional growth and professional learning activities; apply new knowledge to instructional planning and delivery.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model; ensure clear substitute plans, punctuality, regular attendance, and constructive communication with students, parents, and staff.
