Job Description

The Ballard County Stop-N-Go / ASK Director provides leadership and oversight for the district’s school-based child‑care program. The Director is responsible for daily operations, staff supervision, family engagement, and full compliance with Kentucky child‑care regulations, including 922 KAR 2:090, 922 KAR 2:120, and 922 KAR 2:280. This position ensures a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children enrolled in the program.

The Director reports directly to the Superintendent and works in collaboration with the Preschool Coordinator to ensure wrap‑around services for students.

Qualifications (Per 922 KAR 2:090 & Type I Regulations)
  • Be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or qualifying documentation from a comparable educational entity
  • Be employed only as an onsite child‑care director or director of multiple facilities during the hours the child‑care center is in operation
  • Not have had previous ownership interest in a child‑care program whose license, certification, or registration was denied or revoked
  • Meet at least one of the following Type I Child‑Care Center educational requirements (see below)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or Child Development or degree in another field (including pastoral care and counseling) plus twelve (12) clock hours of child development training
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education and Development or Associate degree in another field plus twelve (12) clock hours of child development training and two (2) years of verifiable full‑time paid experience working directly with children
  • Director’s Credential in Early Childhood Development plus one (1) year of verifiable full‑time paid experience working directly with children in:
    • A school‑based program following Department of Education guidelines
    • An early childhood development program (e.g., Head Start)
    • A licensed or certified child‑care program
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) plus one (1) year of verifiable paid experience working directly with children in an approved setting
  • Three (3) years of verifiable full‑time paid experience working directly with children in an approved school‑based or early‑childhood program
Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with 922 KAR 2:090, 922 KAR 2:120, and 922 KAR 2:280
  • Ensure required background checks are completed prior to staff being left alone with children
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and unaltered mandatory records
  • Hire, manage, and supervise staff, volunteers, and visitors to ensure adherence to program policies and procedures
  • Conduct, manage, and document recurring staff meetings
  • Complete annual written performance evaluations
  • Develop, implement, and monitor center policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment and immediately notify parents or guardians of accidents or incidents requiring medical treatment
  • Coordinate at least one (1) annual family involvement activity to build positive relationships with families, school staff, and district leadership
