TITLE:

Athletic Trainer

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and High School Principal

Basic Function

The K-12 Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by student-athletes across all grade levels within the school district. The Athletic Trainer will work closely with coaches, school nurses, physicians, and parents to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, while promoting wellness and injury prevention education throughout the district. This role requires availability during days, nights, and weekends to accommodate games and practices.

Knowledge

and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of K-12 student development and safety consideration.
  • Create, update, and implement Athletic Venue Emergency plans.
  • Compassionate and student-centered approach to care.

Ability to:

  • Provide immediate care and first aid for athletic injuries during practices and games.
  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs tailored to students at various grade levels.
  • Evaluate injuries and provide treatment or referrals to appropriate medical professionals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
  • Collaborate with coaches to develop safe practice and conditioning programs.
  • Attend home athletic events and away events as required.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, coaches, parents, and school personnel regarding athlete health and safety.
  • Educate student-athletes and coaches on proper nutrition, hydration, and wellness.
  • Ensure compliance with state and district policies, as well as athletic governing body rules.
  • Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.
  • File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
  • Carry out other professional responsibilities including punctuality, reliability, care of equipment and materials, planning, communication, confidentiality, and following district and school policies.
  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the Nicholas County Board of Education, Code of Ethics for Certified School Personnel, and the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Primarily based at the school campus, athletic facilities, and event venues.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers for tasks, occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Will require standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and occasionally crawling.
  • Must have specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions while working outdoors during practices or events.
  • The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Athletic Training or related medical field.
  • Athletic Trainer Certification and State License or eligible.
  • Current certification or eligible; and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Terms of Employment
  • Salary and number of days per year determined by the adopted salary schedule of the Nicholas County Board of Education.

Salary: $25.70 to $39.69 Per Hour
