Job Description

Position Title:

Teacher

Responsible To:
Principal

Basic Function:
Fulfill the requirements of classroom instruction with punctuality, reliability, and responsibility.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Has a prepared unit plan that is appropriate for classroom/content/grade level assignment.
  • Exercise proper care of materials and equipment.
  • Communicate needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.
  • Arrive for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.
  • Accept assistance, advice, and guidance from those responsible for supervising his/her performance, and make a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.
  • Share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
  • Alert to the district’s, school’s, and his/her own goals and priorities and seeks professional learning appropriate to these needs.
  • Keep confidential information that has been obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law.
  • The teacher, in his/her association with others, respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicates directly with the person(s) involved in any situation.
  • Adhere to professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
  • Maintains standards – employ classroom management techniques that result in a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Classroom Management and Instructional Practices
  • Begin the class promptly.
  • Communicate expected behaviors to students and ensure they are understood.
  • Promote active engagement from all participants.
  • Respond to inappropriate behaviors with immediate, appropriate intervention.
  • Choose appropriate materials and equipment; handle them efficiently.
  • Engage in effective unit/lesson planning following school or district-established curriculum documents and processes.
  • Establish appropriate objectives for each unit/lesson.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to promote student engagement and achievement.
  • Communicate lesson objectives, purpose, relevance, and assessment expectations to students.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of subject matter.
  • Check periodically students' understanding during the lesson.
  • Provide practice experiences to ensure mastery.
  • Demonstrate reinforcement theory in the lesson.
  • Create a positive classroom climate (Feeling Tone).
  • Include student interests in activities.
  • Encourage, praise, and acknowledge appropriate effort.
  • Ensure each student demonstrates a measure of success.
  • Schedule practice to support retention.
  • Provide opportunities for students to verbalize critical attributes of learning before leaving.
  • Collect data from lessons to evaluate student performance and plan next lessons.
Minimum Qualifications

Valid Kentucky teacher certification for the grade level/content.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
