QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, childcare or community settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise groups of students effectively.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
The After-School Program Assistant is responsible for providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students during after-school hours. The Program Assistant supervises participants, facilitates educational and recreational activities, assists with homework support, and promotes positive youth development.
GENERAL DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
- Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
- Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
- Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
- Shall react positively to directives.
- Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals and staff.
- Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational records.
- Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Lead and facilitate structured activities, including academic enrichment, arts and crafts, sports, and recreational games.
- Provide homework assistance and academic support as needed.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families and school staff.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation.
- Support behavior management using positive reinforcement and established program policies.
- Prepare activity materials and assist with program setup and cleanup.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents following established procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.
- Shall perform any other duties related to your position as assigned by the supervisor.
