A rare opportunity has arisen for a maths/science teacher to join Northern Health School as part of our friendly, professional team in the Waikato. This is a fixed term role to the end of the school year.
This role invites experienced secondary teachers for a rewarding position within our unique health school teaching environment. You will work with diverse and vulnerable students across a spectrum of years and subjects, either on an individual basis or in small groups. Depending on the health and education needs of the student, the teacher may provide the whole education programme, an education programme in association with the student’s regular school, or a programme in association with Te Aho O Te Kura Pounamu (The Correspondence School).
Requirements:
Full New Zealand registration with a highly developed knowledge of the school curriculum and a culturally responsive and relational pedagogy woven into teaching practice. Ability to speak Te Reo Māori and/or local iwi or Tangata Pasifika connections is highly regarded but not essential. A full NZ driving licence is required.

- Empathetic, flexible and able to easily build rapport with students.
- Confident working with students from year 0 to year 14.
Responsibilities:
- Provide education and transition support for year 0-14 students while ill health prevents them attending their regular school.
- Plan and deliver lessons and individual learning plans in collaboration with the student’s regular school and parents.
- Use ICT extensively for administration, programme development and student record activities.
- Collaborate with the Waikato Unit Associate Principal, office administrators, and a teacher aide.
- Support students’ transition back to school on a full-time or reduced timetable basis when appropriate.
- Travel to students’ homes or community sites; use NHS vehicle when available, otherwise use own vehicle and be reimbursed.
Location:
Waikato unit located at our South Auckland school unit, next to the Kauri Flats school in Takanini. NHS serves the Waikato hospital and surrounding areas of Hamilton including Ngāruawāhia, Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Raglan, and between.
