Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate High School English Teacher to join our team at Elliott County High School. The ideal candidate will foster a love of literature and language while promoting critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills among students. This full-time position requires a commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports the diverse needs of high school learners.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive English curriculum aligned with state standards and school objectives.
  • Create lesson plans that incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, including discussions, group work, and technology integration.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, tests, and projects, providing constructive feedback to support student growth.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, collaboration, and respect.
  • Support students in developing their reading, writing, and analytical skills through diverse literary works and writing assignments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary learning and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and trends in English education.
  • Supervise and mentor students in extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification in English for high school levels.
  • Proven experience teaching English at the high school level, with a strong understanding of literature, composition, and language arts pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources to enhance instruction.
  • A passion for literature and a desire to inspire students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers.
