Special Education Teacher – K-2 Social/Emotional (Anticipated Fall 2026)

Falmouth Public Schools seeks a compassionate and dedicated special education teacher to join our team at the elementary school with out K-2 student population. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education and a passion for supporting elementary school students with social, emotional and behavioral challenges. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing individualized support, implementing therapeutic interventions, coaching staff, and fostering a nurturing learning environment for our students.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Behavior Analysis, or a related field.
  • Must hold (or be eligible to hold) the required certification 282 Teacher of Students with Disabilities, Grades K-8.
  • Experience working with elementary school students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic techniques and interventions for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to coach teachers and educational technicians on the use of positive behavior supports and related strategies and interventions.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive school culture that values diversity and celebrates student success.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with elementary students with social, emotional, behavioral needs.
  • Certification or training in trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, or behavioral interventions.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing special education services.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive IEPs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student in the therapeutic intervention program.
  • Provide direct instruction: deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction to students, utilizing evidence-based strategies and accommodations to support their learning and social-emotional growth.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions: utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques and interventions to address students' emotional and behavioral challenges, promoting self-regulation and positive coping skills.
  • Monitor progress and adjust interventions: regularly assess students' progress and adjust interventions as needed, tracking data to measure growth and inform instructional decisions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and families: work closely with school staff, including special education teachers, counselors, and support staff, to coordinate services and ensure a cohesive approach to student support; communicate regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies for success.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment: foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to learn and grow.
  • Participate in professional development: engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to therapeutic interventions, special education best practices, and effective classroom management strategies.
