Contract Days: 235 days/year

Salary: Commensurate with the school district's
Certified Salary Schedule

Appointment: Principals shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.

Qualifications:
  • Shall hold a valid Instructional Leadership/Principal Certification from the Kentucky Division of Certification.
  • Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults.
  • Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty.
  • Supervises: Staff members of the school.

    Physical Demands: Shall have the ability to sit, stand, stoop, as well as lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work at times requires all body movements as related to the job description.

    Job Summary: The principal is the instructional leader responsible for coordinating the development of and facilitating the implementation of current curriculum and best instructional practices embedded within the school plan. The principal is responsible for the protection and care of school property, for the health and welfare of teachers and students, and for the organization, administration, and supervision within the building.

    Performance Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the overall administration of the school.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the school's improvement plan and SBDM policy.
  • Be visible and accessible to staff and advise them on such matters as discipline, instruction, curriculum and working relationships.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings, serves on assigned committees, and accepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activities.
  • Responsible for evaluating all faculty, staff, and students. Responsible for making staff assignments and recommending the transfer or dismissal of teachers and other personnel in his/her charge. Such recommendations accompanied by adequate supporting data shall be made to the superintendent by deadline. Recommendations of dismissal in emergency situations may be made at any time.
  • Supervises student schedules of classes and activities.
  • Administers student discipline in a manner consistent with school and district policies.
  • Supervises the organization of the school attendance program, the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and assists with investigative follow-up actions.
  • Insures procedures for the accuracy, security, and confidentiality of student records.
  • Communicates through appropriate channels to include community members, students, colleagues, etc..
  • Adheres to all state, federal guidelines, and local policy and procedures.
  • Conducts evacuation and other crisis management duties as required.
  • Assists in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.
  • Maintains accurate financial record keeping and adheres to reporting deadlines.
  • Attends and fulfills the requirement of Effective Instructional Leadership Act (EILA) hours.
  • Completes all training and other compliance requirements as assigned.
  • Understands and follows Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

    Terms of Employment:
  • Certified employee with year-to-year contract until continuing contract is granted
  • Participates in Kentucky Teacher's Retirement System (KTRS)
  • Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Certified Evaluation Plan.
