Job DescriptionPara educator supporting classroom teachers in K‑5. Provide high quality support for classroom teacher(s) and support the Estill County School System mission statement.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Meets No Child Left Behind (NCLB) criteria: completion of 48 hours of credit at an institution of higher learning or meets a testing qualification.
- General clerical ability including word processing.
To provide high quality support for the classroom teacher(s) and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.
Performance Responsibilities- Attend work daily, be prompt in attendance and remain on duty as specified by the superintendent and superintendent’s designee.
- Teacher tutor individuals or small groups, reinforce and implement instruction as directed, maintain records of student progress.
- Participate as a member of instructional teams including remediation teams.
- Prepare and organize lessons as directed, administer and score tests according to guidelines, assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
- Assist in administering diagnostics and other tests; score and record test information.
- Monitor and report student behavior per approved procedures; report progress regarding performance and behavior; assist students with lab work as needed.
- Perform routine clerical duties such as preparing instructional and classroom materials, operating copy machines, maintaining classroom and attendance records.
- Provide support to teachers by setting up work areas, displays, audio‑visual equipment, educational training equipment, and distributing and collecting supplies.
- Assist in overseeing students in labs, manage supplies inventory as necessary.
- Offer proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance to students.
- Consult with teachers as needed regarding programs and materials to meet student needs.
- Contact parents of absent students; make home visits as necessary.
- Ensure student health and safety by following practices and regulations.
- Direct group activities, assist monitoring lunchroom and playground activities, assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Participate in meetings and in‑service training programs as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of students and staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
