ESTILL COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION - 7320

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Meets No Child Left Behind (NCLB) criteria: completion of 48 hours of credit at an institution of higher learning or meets a testing qualification.
  • General clerical ability, including word processing.
Reports To

Classroom teacher and Principal

Job Goals

To provide high quality support for the classroom teacher(s) and to support the Mission Statement of the Estill County School System.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Attend work daily and maintain prompt attendance as specified by the Superintendent’s designee.
  • Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforce and implement instruction as directed by the teacher, and maintain records of student progress.
  • Participate as a member of an instructional team, including remediation teams.
  • Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher; administer and score a variety of tests according to established guidelines; assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
  • Assist in administering diagnostic and other tests; score and record test information.
  • Monitor and report student behavior according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior; assist students with lab work as necessary.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operate copy machines; maintain classroom, attendance records.
  • Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, educational training equipment, and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
  • Assist in overseeing students while in labs; maintain supplies inventory as necessary.
  • Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Confere with teachers about programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Contact parents of absent students; make home visits as necessary.
  • Ensure health and safety of students by following practices and regulations.
  • Direct group activities of students as assigned; assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities; assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and/or staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
