SUMMARY: Assist the principal in all areas to provide instructional leadership to staff, including:
Curriculum planning, review, and implementation of curriculum, and professional development. Responsible for building administration, and the safety and welfare of both students and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Instructional Leadership
  • Manages the instructional program, ensuring teaching and learning are priorities and school improvement is a constant goal.
  • Develops a decision‑making and communication structure that supports effective planning, communication, and problem solving.
  • Provides opportunities for faculty and staff to grow, develop, and succeed.
  • Participates in support of school readiness initiatives.
Faculty and Staff Personnel Management
  • Assists in managing faculty and staff to utilize talent effectively and create a healthy school climate.
  • Uses the faculty selection process to recommend competent candidates for employment.
  • Observes performance‑formative evaluation, writes prescriptions for improvement as needed.
  • Conducts summative evaluations in accordance with state and local policies.
  • Uses the Kentucky Certified Evaluation Model when evaluating and conferencing with certified employees.
  • Helps develop appropriate faculty and staff personnel job expectations, descriptions, and regulations.
  • Promotes a positive school climate by involving staff in decision making and problem solving, building trust, respect, cohesiveness, and high morale.
  • Completes accurate personnel records and forwards them timely and appropriately.
Student Personnel Management
  • Addresses student conduct, attendance, and personal problems effectively, reasonably, and positively.
  • Provides support systems for students with learning and/or behavior problems, leading to a systematic program to reduce absenteeism.
  • Promotes optimal attendance for all students.
  • Manages student data through a confidential and efficient record‑keeping system.
  • Utilizes the services of the Director of Pupil Personnel to plan in‑school student services and address special needs.
School Business and Resources Management
  • Assists in operating the school efficiently and cost‑effectively, planning and managing financial and material resources.
  • Adheres to proper accounting procedures for purchase orders and bookkeeping.
Leadership in Public Relations
  • Assists in conducting a public relations program that builds positive support from the school community.
  • Communicates in clear, audience‑appropriate written messages that demonstrate competent writing and editing skills.
  • Responds to information from the public in a reasonable and fair manner.
Management of Support Services, Co‑Curricular Activities and Athletic Programs
  • Supervises support services, co‑curricular activities, and athletic programs, ensuring they contribute optimally to the overall school program.
  • Supervises maintenance of the school plant and grounds to keep them in good repair, safe, clean, and attractive, including supervision of custodial services.
  • Assists the principal in supervising food services, cafeteria, transportation, and student safety on buses.
  • Coordinates the development and conduct of co‑curricular and athletic programs, ensuring they meet students’ developmental needs.

  • Shows sensitivity to the perspectives of staff, students, parents, and central office personnel.
  • Recognizes and builds on staff strengths, maintaining a supportive climate.
