Location: Adairville

Adairville - Guidance Counselor

Guidance Counselor for K-8 students at Logan County School District, Adairville Elementary School in Adairville, Kentucky. Provide behavioral, educational, career, and vocational counseling to individual students and small groups, assist with social, emotional, and academic challenges, and serve as a resource for student behavior management, welfare, and attendance matters.

Responsibilities
  • Perform individual and group counseling and guidance functions, including career and vocational, and social and emotional adjustment counseling.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze student information using educational historical data, test results, and interview techniques.
  • Appraise student interests, aptitudes, and attitudes using a variety of assessment strategies and techniques.
  • Provide information and data to students regarding educational, career, and vocational planning.
  • Serve as a resource to site and district personnel and members of the school community.
  • Meet, confer, and counsel with parents, school personnel, and various youth-serving agencies to develop alternative solutions to student educational, social, and emotional problems.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring individual education plans for students with exceptional needs.
  • Maintain liaison with social service and youth service agencies for referral follow‑up activities.
  • Pursue evaluation and research activities to determine counseling and guidance effectiveness.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing master student program calendars.
  • Identify school program needs and participate in developing instructional programs tailored to individual pupil needs.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and conducting programs that enhance student educational, career, and vocational opportunities, including speaker programs and student visitation programs.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor files and records related to student counseling, guidance, and related matters.
  • Assist in addressing student behavior management problems and resolving welfare and attendance concerns.
  • Plan, develop, and present management reports related to site counseling and guidance functions and activities.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, strategies, and trends in educational, vocational, career, social, and emotional adjustment counseling.
  • Knowledge of appropriate aptitude, interest, and achievement appraisal instruments, techniques, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local social service and youth service agencies.
  • Knowledge of the social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of adolescent students.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation and research techniques, strategies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of appropriate curriculum and instructional programs for students with diverse aptitudes and interests.
  • Ability to assist students in analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral, educational, social, and emotional problems.
  • Ability to conduct, analyze, and effectively use individual and group testing procedures and instruments applicable to student clients.
  • Ability to effectively interact with site and district personnel, parents, and social and youth service agencies to resolve student issues.
  • Ability to participate in planning and implementation of school guidance and curricular programs.
  • Effective communication skills in oral and written form; ability to use a second language as required.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective organizational, public, and community relationships.
Experience and Education
  • Minimum two years of successful public school counseling experience.
  • Equivalent to completion of a Master of Arts or higher degree in psychology, counseling, guidance, or a closely related field.
Certification Requirement

Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
