Coordinator Of Academic Advising & Student Support Services
The College of Business and Engineering Technology Coordinator of Academic Advising & Student Support Services assesses student needs, goals, interests, career plans, and prior academic experiences in order to design and implement a successful academic and experiential learning plan for students in degree programs within the College of Business and Engineering Technology. This position coordinates advising services for the College and provides development, training, and support for faculty related to advising, internship planning, and student support.
The Coordinator represents the College to other university and external areas on matters related to student advising and services, represents the College during prospective student events, and coordinates new student orientations and other events for the College. Other related duties may be assigned by the Dean.
FUNCTIONS:
Skills and Abilities
- Able to relate to students and their unique needs in a kind and courteous manner
- Two or more years experience working with college students in academic and/or support services counseling capacities.
- Skilled in listening, advising, verbal and written communication in individual and large group settings.
- Coordination, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Collaboration with support staff and/or student employees to ensure successful execution of goals/events.
- Computer and technical skills, especially those related to advising software that may be used to facilitate the advising relationship. Virtual advising, student information systems, record management are all a daily function of this work.
- Ability to work independently with complex systems in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Demonstrates understanding of the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
- Demonstrates respect for all individuals.
- Maintain knowledge of university graduation requirements.
- Master's degree in Higher Education/Student Personnel, Education, Counseling, a discipline area of the College, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with 5 or more years of experience in the field may be considered.
- 2-3 years experience in advising or a related field of higher education.
