SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE

Nancy Elementary, Pulaski County Schools, Nancy, Kentucky

• Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups and monitor and report student progress.
• Tutor individuals or small groups, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by a teacher and maintain records of student progress.
• Participate as a member of an instructional team including remediation teams.
• Prepare and organize lessons as directed, administer and score a variety of tests, and assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
• Assist in administering diagnostic and other tests; score and record test information.
• Monitor and report student behavior according to approved procedures; report progress; check and assist students with lab work.
• Perform routine clerical duties such as preparing instructional and classroom materials, operating copy machines, maintaining classroom and attendance records.
• Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas displays, operating audio‑visual and educational training equipment, and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
• Assist in overseeing students while in labs and maintain supplies inventory.
• Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Contact parents of absent students; make home visits as necessary.
• Assure health and safety of students by following practices and regulations.
• Direct group activities as assigned; assist monitoring lunchroom and playground activities; assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
• Participate in meetings and in‑service training programs as assigned.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma, G.E.D. certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law and some experience in working with children in an organized setting. Obtain an official college transcript from an accredited college with 64 college hours or pass the Kentucky Para‑Educators Exam.

Salary: $11.62 Per Hour
