The Bellefonte Area School District is seeking a Learning Support Teacher to educate all students, putting knowledge, values, and skills to function effectively as citizens of our society by providing a nurturing and stimulating environment in cooperation with community, parents, and innovative curriculum.
Key Responsibilities- Plan for standards-based lessons that are challenging, rigorous, and purposeful.
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy which enables students to meet or exceed academic standards.
- Select instructional goals that align with academic standards and the district’s established curriculum.
- Demonstrate knowledge of resources.
- Design coherent instruction.
- Assess student learning and accurately maintain student data.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport.
- Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
- Collaborate with teachers to incorporate 21st Century Literacy Skills into lessons, and co‑teach when available.
- Perform other professional duties as assigned by the building principal.
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
- Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
- Minimum:
- Strong academic preparation and evidence of a rigorous teacher preparation program.
- Experience with instructional technology.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Preferred:
- Prior teaching experience.
- Experience working with students with behavioral/emotional needs.
- Required:
- Pennsylvania teaching certification (K-12 or K-8 Special Education Certification).
- Attachment of PRAAXIS and Letter of Eligibility from graduating college/university required in lieu of PA Certificate until actual PA Certificate is available.

Ability to calculate various statistical procedures and interpret results. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, develop and implement action plans, and interpret extensive curriculum documents. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills with parents, community members, faculty, staff, and administration.

- Demonstrates a positive and caring nature toward children.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Personal integrity, sense of humor, good character, and emotional stability.
The demands described include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 40 pounds. Vision abilities required include close, distance, and depth perception; hearing with a 40‑decibel loss maximum. Some bending and twisting of the body are required.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is typically moderate to loud, depending on activity. The employee must be able to work in an active and busy environment.
