Location: Hodgenville
Position Summary
Support Staff / Instructional Assistant – 3‑hour position at Hodgenville Elementary School.
Responsibilities- Assist in overall classroom procedures as directed by the teacher.
- Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Administer and score a variety of tests according to established guidelines.
- Perform routine clerical duties.
- Monitor and report student behavior according to approved procedures.
- Assist students with lab work as necessary.
- Supervise the library, playground, and lunch activities of pupils.
- Plan displays and exhibits, work areas, and operating educational training equipment with the teacher.
- Assist with attendance records, lunchroom reports, cumulative records, and announcements.
- Assist with small group instruction, make‑up work, tutoring details, reading computation, and story‑telling activities.
- Deal with minor injuries or illnesses to children.
- Direct group activities of students as assigned.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and Superintendent.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
- Completed at least two years of higher education, obtained an associate’s degree, or demonstrated the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local assessment.
- Basic knowledge of arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.
- Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Basic record‑keeping techniques.
- Effective communication skills with students, parents, staff, and the public, including members of ethnic communities.
- Ability to complete routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
- Mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) performed quickly and accurately.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties.
- Cooperative teamwork skills.
- Monitoring, observing, and reporting student behavior according to approved policies.
- Proficiency in operating instructional and office equipment.
Frequent standing and walking, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., and occasional climbing or balancing tasks may be required during the course of work.
