About the Role

The advisor will meet with undergraduate students during scheduled and walk-in appointments, communicate with undergraduate students on advising issues, participate in Master Advising professional development training, generate and disseminate student reports, work within the HRIS system to review student information and help students register for classes, and serve on committees within the department and across the university.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising to new freshmen, undecided/exploring, under-prepared students and probationary students at Northern Kentucky University.
  • Provide follow-up with at-risk students by effectively managing advising caseloads.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of academic orientation programs.
  • Create presentations for students and other professionals on campus.
  • Implement the office’s assessment plan for teaching advising student learning outcomes and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records.
  • Participate in university-sponsored professional development programs, the National Academic Advising Association and the Kentucky Academic Advising Association.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned by the director.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred qualifications are a master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, Education, or other academic discipline with experience in academic advising.
  • Minimum of two years academic advising experience in a higher‑education setting.

  • Strong organizational, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are required.
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, especially at‑risk and undecided/exploring students.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Valid driver’s license required and dependable vehicle. Some evening and weekend work is required.
