Special Education Assistant

For all instructional assistant positions in Title I schools, applicant must have 2 years of college or pass the KY Para educator Assessment.

Pay Rates

Preschool and Special Education – LBD or MSD/FMD: $12.71/hour or $13.75 with Bachelor's Degree (transcripts needed).

Reports To: Principal/Teacher

Supervises: Not Applicable

To work closely under the supervision of the teacher, with handicapped pupils, to provide them with mental, physical, and emotional support, maximizing benefits from the District’s Special Education program.

Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups in programs with exceptional children or equivalent, and monitor/report student progress.

• Assists the teacher in individual or small group instruction and reinforces learning at school or on the bus, including physical tasks such as putting on and taking off outerwear, using the lavatory, and toilet training.
• Assists in utilization of catheter and feeding, depending on student’s physical needs.
• Performs routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials, operates copy machines, sets up work areas, etc.
• Serves as a resource person to the student’s evaluation team as requested.
• Continuously engages in professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, training programs, and/or coursework at higher learning institutions.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and local School Board Policy.
• Maintains necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities by following health and safety practices.
• Rides the bus when assigned, assisting students with loading, unloading, and riding.
• Provides and performs student health services as directed by the supervisor after receiving appropriate training.
• Demonstrates ability to lift and assist with physical care of students as needed.
• Complies with IEP objectives and maintains records of student progress.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $12.71 to $13.75 Per Hour

• Associate degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
