WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Director, Educational Content & Learning Design will develop high-quality, evidence-based educational content and programs for both patients and kidney health professionals. This role combines clinical expertise, adult-learning science, and program leadership to accelerate NKF’s ability to deliver accessible, equity-centered, and practice-changing education across National Kidney Foundation’s portfolio.

This Director will help shape NKF’s national education strategy, curriculum design and delivery, serve as a clinical content expert, and ensure alignment across the Kidney Learning Solutions team, KDOQI clinical practice guidelines, Professional Education, Patient Programs/Services, Research, Field Programs, and other external collaborators. The ideal candidate has a clinical background, preferably in nephrology or closely related fields (diabetes, cardiology, primary care), and demonstrated success in creating impactful education rooted in adult-learning principles and health literacy best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Inform and implement NKF’s integrated education strategy for patient and professional audiences across the NKF ecosystem
  • Support the evolution of competency-based learning pathways, digital education products, patient-centered curricula, and practice-transformation programs
  • Serve as a clinical voice within NKF, helping shape organizational content priorities, strategic partnerships, and program innovations
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of various educational products, from needs assessment and design to development, launch, and evaluation
  • Ensure content is evidence-based, clinically accurate, equity-informed, and aligned with adult-learning and health literacy standards
  • Direct development of modular learning, active learning modalities, toolkits, case-based learning, webinars, infographics, and other innovative and engaging formats

Clinical Expertise & Quality Assurance

  • Provide clinical oversight to ensure educational content reflects current standards, guidelines, and best practices
  • Partner with KDOQI staff, scientific advisors, practicing clinicians, and patient contributors to validate accuracy and relevance of all materials
  • Identify emerging trends and knowledge gaps in kidney care and adjacent specialties to inform NKF’s education pipeline

Cross-Functional & External Collaboration

  • Collaborate with NKF Cares, Peers, Field Programs, Communications, CKDintercept, and Patient Engagement to ensure cohesive messaging and shared learning priorities
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Relations team to build and sustain relationships with industry and external partners that advance shared priorities and secure funding to support learning and content initiative
  • Represent NKF at national meetings, advisory groups, and learning collaboratives as a subject matter expert in kidney-focused education
