Position Summary This is a full time 5/5ths 100% FTE position, teaching various levels of ASL in our World Language department. This is an on campus position. Remote teaching is not available.
Responsibilities and Duties- Model for students the characteristics of Lasallian/Vincentian education;
- En gage students in a global community by developing their expressive and receptive abilities to communicate in American Sign Language and by studying Deaf culture;
- In collaboration with World Language Department colleagues, and per department goals , guide students to
- Gain command of the structures of standards ASL grammar, usage, and mechanics when signing;
- Produce clear and coherent singing in which the the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience;
- Interpret signs, and be able to analyze how specific sign choices shape meaning or tone;
- Build knowledge of finger spelling, including initialized and lexicalized forms, vocabulary acquisition, and uses;
- Develop experiential knowledge of another culture, make connections across disciplines, explore the nature of language and culture by comparisons with their own, and actively participate in a bilingual community, beginning with the World Language classroom;
- Demonstrate a growth mindset and effectively collaborate with colleagues to
- Design, implement, and review standards-based lessons to facilitate critical thinking and mastery of essential skills and understandings;
- Plan and implement what students will learn, how they will learn, and how they will be assessed in a manner appropriate to the grade level;
- Provide regular and varied formative and summative assessments to facilitate our students’ ability to understand their progress toward learning targets, and to reliably document student progress;
- Collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Academics and other academic leaders to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, and other initiatives to strengthen the learning for all in our community;
- Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces (Schoology);
- Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;
