The Marquette Central Student Services Adviser provides cross-functional counseling and advice on complex enrollment and student financial issues within the Marquette Central Student Services unit. Advising services are provided to the university’s diverse populations of current and prospective students and families in the areas of registration, academic records, financial aid, student employment and student accounts. Additionally, this position handles complex situations when discussing both academic success and financial matters.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
1. Counseling and Advising
- Counsel, investigate, problem-solve, and resolve questions and issues from prospective, and current students, parents, faculty, third parties, and the public.
- Maintain a continuous focus on academic and financial wellness, student retention and graduation rates.
- Provide in-depth financial aid information and assistance regarding the aid application process ( FAFSA ), eligibility including the financial aid offer, deadlines, explain various loan terms and conditions, professional judgement, scholarship renewal, disbursement policies, satisfactory academic progress, student employment and study away policies.
- Counsel students and families regarding their payment rights and responsibilities throughout the student life cycle. This includes explaining billing statements, payment options, billing timelines, and 1098T’s.
- Assist students with registration logistics, navigating Check Marq, forms transcripts orders, and academic policies.
- Adjust financial aid offers following university policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all federal, state and university regulations and procedures when counseling and advising.
- Ability to advise students and families on the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 ( FERPA ) regulations.
