PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:

We will focus on candidates who:

  • Build positive relationships with students and create an engaging, supportive classroom and rehearsal environment.
  • Are committed to building a cohesive and inclusive 5th-12th grade choir program that supports student growth and sustained participation.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate concerts, performances, and other program activities.
  • Are committed to inclusive practices and supporting the success of all learners by recognizing and valuing the diverse backgrounds of students and families.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate choir instruction for students in grades 5-12.
  • Teach vocal technique, music literacy, ensemble skills, performance practices, and appreciation of diverse musical styles and traditions.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom and rehearsal environment that supports students with varying levels of experience and ability.
  • Direct middle school and high school choirs and prepare students for concerts, festivals, and other school or community performances.
  • Coordinate performances, including scheduling, communication, transportation needs, programs, equipment, and other logistical details.
  • Build continuity across the 5th-12th grade choir program to support skill development, student participation, and long-term program growth.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, conferences, and other responsibilities associated with teaching in both buildings.
EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in music education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Music Education (JQ or JX) endorsement, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate certification.
  • Experience teaching vocal music and directing choral ensembles at the middle and/or high school level preferred.
  • Piano or other accompaniment skills preferred.
  • Experience planning concerts, festivals, and other student performances preferred.
