JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Campus Regional Dean works in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education to directly supervise the overall quality of the student education experience at the regional site, and assure that all clinical preceptors are engaged in meaningful teaching, and that the academic component of each rotation is maintained in accordance with accreditation standards and LECOM’s standard of excellence.
CHARACTERISTICJOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work collaboratively with the Department of Clinical Education to ensure that students are meeting all goals and objectives in each rotation as outlined in the regional clinical campus curriculum;
- Provide oversight of the Student Coordinator to ensure that LECOM students are successfully placed into core rotations, and that core selective rotations and elective rotations are available to LECOM students on a preferred basis;
- Conduct entrance and exit interviews with students to assure that there is an adequate orientation process at each institution, and that student feedback of each rotation is solicited;
- Work collaboratively with the LECOM Department of Clinical Education and the other Regional Deans to share curriculum and conduct meaningful research, as well as collect aggregate performance data on regional clinical campus students at each site;
- Oversee the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine education at each institution for students. Ensure that students are getting sufficient exposures and opportunities for hands-on practice of their osteopathic manipulative skills;
- Work collaboratively with our student online clinical course curriculum educator to ensure students are appropriately using the online resources, answering the weekly questions, and completing the discipline-specific exams;
- Attend the semiannual Regional Deans meetings, which will be held in conjunction with the LECOMT Board meetings, typically conducted in the spring and summer/fall. This includes the spring annual Regional Dean Retreat and annual summer/fall Regional Dean Summit;
- Participate in telephonic or internet-based meetings with other Regional Deans to discuss curriculum development and rotations, which occur up to once to twice a month;
- Facilitate at least two, two-hour sessions monthly with students to enhance their case presentation skills, and also conduct a case-based discussion session with them. It is perfectly appropriate to engage residents as co-facilitators in this role;
- Work collaboratively with the Department of Medical Education at each institution to assure that LECOM students are appropriately integrated into the educational process and treated in a fair and humane manner;
- Assure that all LECOM students are adhering to the Professional Code of Conduct Policy as determined by LECOM, and report any violations of professionalism immediately to the Department of Clinical Education;
- Provide written status reports prior to the regularly scheduled Regional Deans meeting up to once a month;
- Development and/or expansion of new rotation sites for LECOM with an emphasis to create new programs in underrepresented specialties and underserved areas;
- Ensure osteopathic principles, practice and philosophy is integrated into all postdoctoral programs;
- Maintain core curriculum for regional sites based on a PBL model and integration of OMT to include online and enhanced web-based education;
- Monitor key assessment metrics including subject/shelf exams for clinical experience at regional sites;
- Oversight of all students at regional program. Serve as their advisor and contact for clinical education at sites (will work closely with clinical education office to facilitate this) and develop champions at each site;
- Provide career counseling to with students to assure that there is an adequate understanding of career opportunities, which includes meeting with students as a group and individual meetings to provided necessary career counseling guidance;
- Develop a clinical campus to serve regional sites within 100 miles of regional site;
