Future teaching assignments are on a semester-by-semester basis, which may include fall, spring and summer. The Social Sciences Department at Texas A&M University-Central Texas is seeking applicants for a sociology adjunct instructor position.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach an upper-level course in sociology. Areas of specialization are open, but we are especially interested in candidates who can teach at least one of the following topics: social inequalities, health and illness, media, political sociology, or the military. Experience and enthusiasm for teaching and working with undergraduate students is essential. Because demand for online courses is growing, candidates do not need to live in Central Texas.

A Ph.D. in sociology is preferred. Please submit a curriculum vitae, transcripts, and a cover letter describing your fit for the position and whether you would be willing to teach online, face to face, or both.

Job Summary

Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process. Adjunct instructors are hired to teach on a temporary and part-time basis. Adjunct instructors teaching courses for credit must meet the same requirements for professional and scholarly preparation as their full-time counterparts teaching in the same discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches an undergraduate level class in sociology as needed.
  • Writes syllabi for the courses to be taught using the approved format of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Responds to student needs via email and with grading feedback in a timely manner.
  • Meets with students enrolled in their classes when students need additional assistance with class material and assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters in sociology
  • Experience in teaching in sociology.
  • Show expertise in and commitment to undergraduate sociology education.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and employing innovative teaching methods.
Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Sociology or related field

A Presidential Proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on all new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025, and Texas A&M University–Central Texas will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium issued by Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026, restricts the filing of new H-1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission.
