- Deliver Engaging Lessons: Design and implement inquiry-based units in alignment with state standards and the C3 Framework (College, Career, and Civic Life).
- Foster Critical Thinking: Teach students how to analyze primary and secondary sources, identify bias, corroborate evidence, and distinguish fact from opinion.
- Incorporate Media Literacy: Guide students in navigating digital information safely, evaluating online sources, and understanding modern media landscapes.
- Differentiate Instruction: Adapt lessons and assessments to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including English Language Learners (ELL), students with IEPs/504 plans, and advanced learners.
- Manage with Empathy: Establish clear, consistent classroom routines and a positive behavior management system tailored to the social-emotional development of 12-to-14-year-olds.
- Facilitate Civil Discourse: Create a safe, inclusive environment where students can discuss complex historical events and current issues respectfully.
- Act as an Advisor: Support the holistic development of middle schoolers, serving as a mentor during advisory periods or homeroom.
- Formative & Summative Evaluation: Utilize a variety of assessment methods (projects, DBQs/Document-Based Questions, debates, writing portfolios) to gauge student progress.
- Data-Driven Instruction: Use assessment data to identify learning gaps and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Parent/Guardian Partnership: Maintain proactive, transparent communication regarding student progress, behavior, and achievements.
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Collaborate regularly with grade-level teams and the social studies department to align curriculum and share best practices.
- School Community Engagement: Participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, History, Political Science, or a related field.
- Certification: Valid State Teaching Credential/License with an endorsement in Middle School Social Studies.
- Developmental Knowledge: Deep understanding of the psychological, cognitive, and social development of young adolescents.

Skills:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
Amboy Jr. High School is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and student-centered educator to join our faculty as a 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of historical and geographical concepts and a genuine enthusiasm for guiding middle school students through critical inquiry. In this role, you will help students connect historical events to modern-day civic responsibilities, analyze primary sources, and develop strong argumentative writing skills.
