The Physical Education Teacher will serve as a half-time member of the district’s physical education department and as the district’s Adapted Physical Education (APE) specialist. This role includes delivering high-quality physical education instruction to students in grades JK–8, while also collaborating with general education and special education teams to ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to physical education through individualized and adapted programming.
The teacher will promote health, fitness, teamwork, and inclusion for all students, and will provide expertise in designing and implementing adapted physical education services outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate PE instruction for students across JK–8.
- Promote lifelong fitness, wellness, and healthy lifestyles through skill development, cooperative activities, and physical literacy.
- Foster positive student engagement, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Assess, design, and implement adapted physical education programs aligned to student IEP goals.
- Collaborate with special educators, related-service providers, and general PE staff to integrate students with disabilities into inclusive physical education settings.
- Adapt activities, equipment, and instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Collect and analyze progress data related to APE goals and share updates with IEP teams.
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure equitable participation in physical education.
- Provide consultation and training to staff regarding adapted strategies, equipment, and modifications.
- Participate in IEP meetings, student support teams, and interdisciplinary planning as needed.
- Perform additional duties relevant to the scope of the position as assigned by the administration.
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in Physical Education (K–12).
- Endorsement or certification in Adapted Physical Education.
- Knowledge of motor development, physical fitness, and evidence-based practices for inclusive PE.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education staff, special educators, related-service providers, and families.

Commensurate with the current agreement between the District and the Kenilworth Educators Association.
