Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Part-time Sociology Instructor is responsible for teaching assigned sociology courses to students in college-transfer and career and technical education programs. The instructor facilitates student learning through effective course preparation, instruction, assessment, and feedback while maintaining high academic standards and supporting achievement of established course learning outcomes.

Classes may be offered during the day, afternoon, or evening and may be delivered face-to-face, online, hybrid, or through other approved instructional modalities. Classes may be held on the main campus, at off-campus instructional sites, or through distance education.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Sociology or Master’s Degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology.

    Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .**
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • College-level teaching experience, preferably in a community college or similar higher education setting
  • Experience teaching face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended courses
  • Experience using learning management systems, instructional technology, Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and collaboration applications
  • Demonstrated ability to support student learning and achievement through effective instruction, assessment, communication, and feedback
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as designated by the Department Chair and approved by the Dean.
  • Teach assigned sociology courses in accordance with approved course descriptions, student learning outcomes, curriculum standards, and College requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver effective instruction using appropriate teaching methods, course materials, instructional technology, and learning activities.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing appropriate and meaningful instructional activities that support student learning and achievement of course outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain course materials and learning management system content for assigned courses.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate appropriate assessments of student learning.
  • Provide students with timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate and complete College records, including attendance, grades, student progress, and other required documentation.
  • Submit attendance, grades, and other required reports within established College deadlines.
  • Communicate course expectations, policies, assignments, grading procedures, and learning outcomes clearly to students.
  • Maintain regular and appropriate communication with students throughout the course.
  • Provide appropriate academic guidance and refer students to College academic and student support resources when needed.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and supportive learning and working environment for students and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of student records and other sensitive information in accordance with FERPA , College policy, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Use instructional technology and College-supported systems appropriate to the assigned course and instructional modality.
  • Ensure course materials and instructional practices meet applicable College accessibility requirements.
  • Remain current in the discipline of sociology, instructional practices, educational technology, and other areas relevant to assigned teaching responsibilities.
