The Department of Politics at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position for a scholar of Comparative Politics. We are especially interested in candidates who focus on challenges of development, state capacity, and/or regime stability. Scholars with expertise in China are especially encouraged to apply; other priority areas include Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa.
The appointment begins August 10, 2027.
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in political science by the time of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with an active research agenda and methodological sophistication. Applicants should have a strong interest in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, where the standard load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of more than 30 tenure-track faculty members and a PhD program in political science.
