English Language Arts Teacher

Oakland Flex Tech High School is seeking a full time ELA Teacher
. Must have teacher certification and endorsement.

Block Scheduling on Monday - Thursday (7:50am - 4pm);
Friday office hours from 9am - 3:30pm.

Oakland Flex Tech High School is located in Farmington Hills, MI and serves the greater Metro-Detroit area. As a 9-12 high school of approximately 200 students, Flex Tech offers flexible scheduling to accommodate learning outside the walls of the school through internships, college dual enrollment and various community projects. Students find themselves challenged and inspired by the progressive, competency-based and project-based learning model that is at the core of our instructional program.

Teachers and students spend their day in an open environment that was specifically designed to mirror the contemporary work world where students are expected to manage their time and build independent and collaborative work skills. Although teachers do some typical classroom instruction, they spend a lot of their time one‑on‑one or in small groups guiding student work and projects.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching literature, writing, and language skills to middle school students. This individual will create a stimulating classroom environment, encourage student engagement and participation, and foster a love for reading and writing.

Essential Duties:

• Teach a diverse curriculum that includes literature, composition, grammar, and language usage while considering varied learning styles and needs.
• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
• Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
• Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
• Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
• Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
• Regular and predictable attendance
• Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lb
• Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
• Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
• Passion for literature and the ability to inspire students to develop their writing and analytical skills.
