Position Purpose

The REP Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction that enables students to develop strong reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). The teacher will create a positive, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environment that promotes student achievement, literacy development, and college and career readiness. The Remedial Education Program (REP) Teacher provides targeted instructional support to eligible students performing below grade level monitoring student progress, collaborating with teachers and families, and coordinating program implementation to ensure compliance with state and district requirements.

The position supports the district’s MTSS framework through data-driven decision-making and evidence-based instructional practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required (Masters’ degree preferred).
Certification

Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in One of the Following:

  • Professional Certification (Grades 6–12)
  • Elementary Education (1–8)
  • Middle Grades Education (4–8)
  • Secondary Education (7–12)
  • Reading Specialist (K–12)
    • Reading Specialist (P – 12) [Field Code 732]
    • Reading Endorsement [Field Code 833]
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Gifted Certification
  • ESOL Certification
Performance Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver targeted, standards-based instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for English Language Arts, with a focus on closing learning gaps for struggling students.
  • Design and implement intervention-focused lesson plans that strengthen foundational skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary, grammar, research, and writing.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students performing below grade level, students with disabilities, English learners, and those requiring additional academic intervention.
  • Use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, digital tools, and formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and improve student achievement.
  • Incorporate effective literacy intervention strategies across content areas to reinforce skill development and promote academic growth.
  • Prepare students for success on state and local assessments, including the Georgia Milestones, by providing targeted remediation, test-taking strategies, and skill reinforcement.
Classroom Management & Learning Environment
  • Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that encourage positive student behavior and engagement.
  • Promote high expectations for student performance, attendance, and participation.
Assessment & Data Analysis
  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly using formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance in accordance with district policies.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, counselors, and colleagues regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support school improvement initiatives and student success.
