Position Summary: The History Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality instruction in history and social studies to promote student understanding of historical concepts, civic responsibility, and critical thinking. The teacher implements the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Social Studies and fosters an engaging, inclusive learning environment aligned with district goals and expectations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in History, Political Science, Social Studies, Education, or a related field
  • Georgia Professional Educator Certificate in History, Political Science, Economics or a related field (6–12 or appropriate grade band) or eligibility for certification
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Social Studies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based history and social studies instruction aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence
  • Develop lessons that promote historical inquiry, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and understanding of historical perspectives
  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and civic literacy skills
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English Learners, and gifted students
  • Integrate literacy strategies, including reading comprehension, writing, and discussion, within social studies instruction
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student engagement and learning
Assessment & Data Use
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum standards
  • Analyze student performance data to guide instruction and provide targeted interventions
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and families
  • Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes
Classroom Management & Student Support
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment
  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and district discipline policies
  • Support students’ academic growth, social-emotional development, and responsible citizenship
  • Communicate clear expectations for student behavior and academic achievement
Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and administrators
  • Participate in IEP, 504, and parent conferences as required
  • Maintain accurate student records, lesson plans, and grades
  • Adhere to district policies, procedures, and professional ethical standards
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and school improvement initiatives

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be in accordance to the current schedule of the 190-day calendar.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Physical Demands: Performing the functions of this job may require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and some fine finger dexterity. The job may require occasional lifting of up to 50lbs. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.
