Georgetown Day School, an independent day school in Washington, D.C., seeks a High School science teacher for the  school year. Primary job responsibilities include teaching up to four sections of science and related disciplines at the high school. In this role, instructors are expected to place students’ interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom, as a student-centered educator. The ideal candidate is committed to developing students’ critical thinking and growth as readers, writers, and thinkers.

• Teach three sections of 9th grade Biology and one section of Forensic Science

• Create rich content, creative pedagogy, and authentic relationships are essential components of a GDS classroom.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues.

• Offer student support outside of class, as needed.

• Engage with parents.

• Meet regularly with department/grade-level teams.

• Attend divisional meetings and all school events.

• High school teachers may serve as advisor in their second year, as teachers at the high school are assigned a student advisory group.

• May opt to take on additional roles to supervise student clubs or coach sports.

• Accomplish all tasks as appropriate. Other duties outside this description may be assigned as necessary.

• A B.S. in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or a related field is required.

• A Master’s degree is preferred.

• Three years or more of teaching experience is preferred.

• Knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social and emotional development

• Capacity to teach multiple disciplines at various levels.
